GreenLight laser surgery for an enlarged prostate
Consultant Urologist Alan Doherty of The Birmingham Prostate Clinic explains how GreenLight laser works as a treatment for men with an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia).
Nerve-sparing prostatectomy
Dr Richard Commander is a 55-year-old GP from Shropshire. He was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and had a nerve-sparing prostatectomy, which is a type of procedure designed to reduce the side effects of surgery. A traditional prostatectomy, or removal of the prostate, often causes long term erectile dysfunction and incontinence problems. A nerve-sparing prostatectomy significantly reduces these complications, safely removing the cancerous prostate but limited damage to nearby nerves.
